When I first started AIP (Autoimmune Protocol) back in 2014 to help heal my body and calm inflammation after being diagnosed with Celiac Disease and struggling with infertility, there wasn’t nearly as many resources available as there are now. Read more about my experience with AIP here. I really didn’t know what to make for myself, but I was determined to find foods that were not only healing for my body, but were great tasting and satisfying. I needed a breakfast option badly and was on the hunt for snacks and desserts. Thankfully, I was able to find foods that I enjoyed to help ease the transition to eating nutrient dense and nourishing meals.
I have a pretty good collection of Healing and AIP cookbooks now that I use a lot. Jumping back into my cookbook stash helps me with some fresh new ideas or when I need something specific such as for a holiday meal or summer bar-b-que menu. I often don’t follow the recipes to a “T” and regularly alter them based on what ingredients I have on hand or what my body responds better to.
Here are a few of my favorite Healing and AIP cookbooks:
- The Healing Kitchen by Alaena Haber and Sarah Ballantyne. I use this a lot. My young daughter and I like to make the Monkey Bars on page 282 and the Thin Pizza Crust on page 120 regularly. This, along with The Autoimmune Protocol Comfort Food Cookbook below, is one of the two books I recommend to people who are new to AIP or healing diets. The recipes are simple and also kid and family-friendly.
- The Autoimmune Protocol Comfort Food Cookbook by Michelle Hoover. I really love Michelle’s recipes, not just in this cookbook, but also on her blog at Unbound Wellness. She does an amazing job of taking some of the most beloved meals and finding a way to make them AIP and so delicious. I make a ton of her recipes and one of my favorites is her Mongolian Beef on page 101. I really don’t think I have made many recipes that I or my family didn’t like!
- The Autoimmune Wellness Handbook by Mickey Trescott and Angie Alt. This is a great resource for people who are just starting out on their healing journey. This book provides helpful information and tips for how to use diet and lifestyle to heal and also has a cookbook inside with recipes to get you started. It’s a great two in one resource.
- The Nutrient-Dense Kitchen by Mickey Trescott. This is a great cookbook when starting a healing diet because it teaches you why nutrient-dense foods are so important and how to make them.
- The Autoimmune Solution Cookbook by Dr. Amy Myers. One of the first books I read to learn more about autoimmune disease, inflammation, and the role diet and lifestyle play in our health was The Autoimmune Solution, so I was excited when she came out with a cookbook.
While there are many on the market now, these are the top 5 that I use regularly. What are your favorite cookbooks?
